One of the reasons why I wanted to do a PhD was traveling for conferences. I had the luck of publishing a workshop paper from my master thesis and presenting it at ESEC/FSE in 2007 — that experience, together with more important ones like my love for research at the time, is what pushed me towards it. And thanks to my studies and my work I have visited many places that have helped me grow as a human and, I hope, better understand the complexity of places, people, and cultures different from where I was born and raised.
Scattered across the pages of this website, there are plenty of places mentioned — the venue of a publication, the location of a conference. In that context they are just names in a list. Put on a map, they tell a slightly different story — one I find much nicer to look at, and one linked to the growth I mentioned above.

The map is not a static picture — it builds itself from the site’s own content. Each talk, publication, and post names the place it happened in; those names are resolved against a small gazetteer of coordinates, and whatever comes out gets a dot.
The red dots are work: a talk like Teaching DSLs in Scala at Scala Days in Seattle, or the tutorial on unstructured data at ASE in Singapore. The other colour is for the places I went to for myself rather than for a conference.
