For many years observatories have been collecting earthquakes information. More recently, the world wide web has become the cheapest way to publish this data, so inexpensive that the information about more than 250 thousands earthquakes has been released from the Italian INGV Earthquake Observatory between 2006 and 2017.
Unfortunately, the majority of this information is available just as raw data. Thus, any form of analytics on this data is hardly possible without dedicated analysis tools that are not publicly available, for example to visualize the evolution of foreshocks and aftershocks in the case of big earthquakes.
The goal of this project is to develop an analytics platform to visualize and interact with data stemming from the INGV Observatory. This entails modeling and processing the INGV data stream and creating an interactive website which allows users to visualize all the collected data and interact with them. We will illustrate two use cases of our project that show how Earthquake Analytics can be used to support effective analytics on the earthquake data published by INGV.
